Manufacturing
The VISA Group is continuously extending its value chain
presence, with exciting developments in the manufacturing
front. India is now expected to emerge as the next giant in
iron and steel (after China), and VISA is focusing its immediate
manufacturing plans in India. The Group operates its manufacturing
interests in India through VISA Steel Ltd, which is registered
in Bhubaneswar and has its corporate office in Kolkata.
VISA Steel Ltd made its first foray into manufacturing
with a chrome ore beneficiation plant in Golagaon, Orissa.
Despite the challenges of setting up a Greenfield project
in this mineral-rich Indian state, VISA Steel demonstrated the strength
of self-belief and successfully commissioned the plant in
1999. Since then, VISA has implemented a number of Greenfield
and Brownfield expansion projects.
VISA Steel enjoys a rich decade-long insight into business
of minerals and metals through supply of raw materials
and marketing of finished products. Capitaising on the
attractive opportunities presented by a growing economy and
industry, the Company is strategically taking this insight a
step ahead through the phased implementation of an integrated
Special and Stainless Steel manufacturing project at
Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Orissa.
To Strengthen its viability, the company chalked out a de
risked, phased implementation schedule with the first phase of
0.5 mtpa steel making capacity scheduled to go completely on
stream by 2007. The blast furnace of 250cu. m capacity has
already been commissioned in a record period of 11 months and
work for Coke Oven, DRI Kilns, Ferro chrome, Captive Power
Plant and Steel is under progress.
In addition, VISA Steel is in the initial stages of setting up
another integrated steel and stainless steel plant in Chattisgarh,
India. VISA also plans to establish mining and processing
operations in Jharkhand, India, and is also considering putting
up an integrated steel and stainless steel plant in the State.
The VISA Group ensures active environment management, especially
relevant for its growing manufacturing activities. For instance,
environmentally friendly technologies have been chosen with
pollution levels benchmarked internationally, and are much
stricter than norms specified by the State / Central Government.
